We use motorised RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats) and each boat has a qualified skipper to drive the boat and a crew member to manage the ropes.
Our support boats are out on the water to supervise each sailing session.
They perform a number of essential tasks:
Safely tow the sail boats from the dock out to the harbour where sailing takes place. (see video below)
Shadow the sail boats to make sure everyone is happy and safe.
Placement of buoys to set a small course.
Safely tow the sail boats back into the dock.
Communicate regularly via marine radio with the Officer of the Day onshore who continually monitors the sailing conditions.
We are always looking for more support boat volunteers: skippers and crew. So if you already have the skills or would like to learn, we offer a training programme for support boat skippers and crew.
Why not check out our Volunteer page and see if there's a position that you might like to learn. Contact us today and we will help you find the right spot in our volunteer community.
We'd love to welcome you into our
Sailability Smiles Club soon.
